I have been running a solid plastering business for 30 years.23 years in Qld employing many tradesmen over the years.

There is no doubt in my mind that the ecconomics and viability of this trade has fallen.

Ok maybe the ecconomy in Qld isn't the best at the moment

Very little or no work and competitive pricing makes it difficult out there.

One thing I have noticed , we are doing less work inside these days as once upon a time we rendered and whiteset internal walls, rendered for tiles , whiteset ceilings and generally did more work inside. Cement render stands up to flood prone areas with flying colours.

External work sucks not only are they smaller contracts but we are greatly affected by the weather.

You know when it rains no work no pay!

Then to top it off Contracting to painters who take on render contracts.

How many of you have contracted to some unscrupulous painter who has under quoted or mismanaged their render,paint package leaving us in dispute financially.These people do not understand the aspects of our trade.

I could rave on more about alot of issues regarding contracting not being on a level playing field, workers compensation, super, sham contractors, BSAQ, builders and more
